Welcome home!
We focus on your child as a whole. At Gingerbread Manor Childcare, your most precious are made to feel as if they are part of a family. We are here to help your child(ren) grow in many ways.... We give your child(ren) a home away from home environment, and to us that means, occasionally going out for a healthy meal, coming to the grocery store, going to the park to meet our friends etc. Its all about making them an extension of our family.
From being with their peers, and mastering the art of play. I am a big believer in letting the kids guide me, allowing me to give learning opportunities when possible. I am not one to stop the explorations of my group, as this is paramount to social, cognitive and emotional development.
We do have some structure in our day, and examples of said structure are:
-Meal, and snack times
-Quiet time
-Adult lead activity
-Outdoor play when weather allows
However, the focus of our program is play-based. things like, and opportunities for dramatic play, with hands-on open-ended learning, and imaginative play are given. Music is used to encourage gross motor movement on a daily basis. Our intent to to help children learn and grow, and along the way gaining valuable self-help skills like dressing independently. Putting on shoes, washing hands, using the bathroom with little help, and assisting with toy pick up are a part of this too.
All these skills are achieved based on the child's ability and age and help prepare them for elementary school. We are committed to building long-term relationships with both the child and the parent, and providing the needed love, education, and guidance to help your child ease into their school aged years.
Gingerbread Manor Childcare's program includes an age range of 1-12 Varying ages provides younger children the encouragement to achieve new skills while teaching older children empathy and the valuable lesson of setting good examples. Everyone has a playmate and is never left out.
My husband Ryan, who has a full time job assists when able. Ryan interacts with the children in care when at home in a family like way.
Before opening Gingerbread Manor Childcare in November of 2011, I (Eileen) was an Educational Assistant with Saskatoon Public Schools, as well as an Early Childhood Educator I in the preschool, and licensed childcare setting. I am a long term provider who does not plan on closing anytime soon! I graduated from SIIT (www.siit.sk.ca) in 2008, working in the public school system until 2010. While employed with the school board I worked with children who had diverse learning needs, and needed accommodations to thrive in the classroom.
Examples of these accommodations included:
-Modified learning programs
-Scribes for exams, and note taking
-Administration of oral exams
-Modified outdoor, and indoor play
-Modified lesson implementation, and planning
-English as an Additional Language Assistance
-Medication assistance
As well as:
-Personal care assistance
-Meal Assistance
I have experience with children who have Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, Global Delay, FAS, FAE, learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, tactile disorders, and those that were newcomers to our country. These lovely kids were in grades pre-k to grade eight.
While an Early Childhood Educator in licensed setting my responsibilities included but were not limited to:
-Activity organization, and implementation
-Meal Planning
-Meal Preparation
-Centre cleaning and organization
-Providing welcoming play spaces
-Modeling good eating habits
At this time we do not offer full time care.
